YOUTH GROUPS

Temple Beth Am has three vibrant Youth Groups for children grades five through twelve.  Our Advisor, Mark Derwin, has been involved with Youth Groups for more than 25 years and has been running the programs at Beth Am for 15.  He has a strong background from camps like Eisner and Kutz as well as his own Youth Group experiences in LIFTY and NFTY.  He believes that children who come to Youth Group stay active in their Temples longer and go on to have a stronger sense of their Jewish Identity.  Information about our meetings is posted on the bulletin board outside of the Youth Lounge.  If you have any questions about the youth programs please contact him at Mark_Derwin@IBI.Com

The 56 Club is for children in grades 5 and 6.  We meet one Sunday a month and our meetings are always a lot of fun.  We have both in house meetings and trips.  In the past, our trips have included: Laser Tag, Rock Climbing, Swimming, Bowling, Mini-Golf, Gaga and the New York Party Zone.   We are always looking for new and exciting places to visit.  Our in house meetings include Scavenger Hunts, Chanuka Parties and Chocolate Seders.  Our meetings are always a lot of fun.

The 78 Club gets the best of both worlds.  This group is for children in grades 7 and 8.  We meet one Tuesday a month, right before Hebrew High.  We have fun meetings like Jeopardy and Scavenger Hunts as well as Chanuka Parties and Chocolate Seders.  We also have discussions on topics that concern middle school aged children like stress and substance abuse.  Most of the time, members are invited to come on the Sunday trips as well!

BATY is for High School students, grades 9 through 12.  BATY meets two Tuesdays a month, right before Hebrew High.  This group is devoted to both fun and learning.  While in house games like Scruples and Pictionary are played, we also learn leadership and programming skills.  Members of this group are asked to help out at Temple events like the Purim Carnival, the sandwich Mitzvah and blood drives.  They also help run the 56 Club in house meetings.  Members of this group earn community service as well as letters of recommendation for college, scholarships, programs and jobs.
