Endowments/Donations

Temple Beth Am, over the years of its existence, has established many different funds that are used to support programs and services that are not part of our operating budget. Congregants are encouraged to make contributions into these funds to acknowledge or celebrate different life-cycle events.

Funds:

Cantor Jack Brown Music Enrichment Fund
The purpose is to obtain a fitting and enduring memorial in his name. Fund will provide money for supplies and music to enhance our Temple music program and to periodically enable the congregation to enjoy guest personalities bringing us music from our vast musical heritage, as well as more contemporary music.

Library Fund
For the acquisition of books, periodicals and other materials to augment the library collection and to repair and replace the library materials. For the purchase or rental of supplies, furnishings, or equipment used in connection with library programs or activities. For the payment of membership dues in local and national library organizations.

Prayer book Fund
For the purchase, repair and replacement of prayer books.

Moe Cooper Social Action Fund
Fund started by Irwin Cooper in memory of his father. This fund is to be used for those in need regardless of religion, race, political background or age. It is the intent of this fund to teach the value of social action by encouraging Temple members to be involved in Tikum Olan - Reform Judaism's commitment to the less fortunate.

Temple Beth Am Scholarship Fund
The Temple Beth Am Scholarship Fund provides our Temple/Youth Group students with financial aid to encourage their participation in activities and events aimed at increasing their awareness of their Jewish identity and heritage and to foster qualities that will provide Jewish communities with leadership in the future.

Learning Disability and Special Education Fund
For special equipment, materials, and tutoring needs, for students with special needs.

Lori Rogers Confirmation Fund
Gift is awarded to a Confirmand or Confirmands who manifest devotion, loyalty to Judaism, courage and concern for their fellow human beings.

Louis and Sadie Schaffel Confirmation Fund
The Schaffel Award was established by the family of the late Louis and Sadie Schaffel in their memory and to memorialize the fine Jewish values reflected in their lives. The award is presented at Confirmation to a 10th grade student (or students) whose attitude and record reflects such traditional values.

Scott Leventhal Chavurah Fund
For 11th and 12th grade grade students for Jewish educational, cultural and social purposes according to the recommendation of the Director of Education, School Chairman and Rabbi or Cantor.

Jaffe/Friedman Youth Scholarship Fund
For students or Youth group members in furtherance of Judaically oriented school activity, including instructional materials and attendance at seminars, camps and conferences.

Bornstein Fund
For equipment and special projects that will enhance Temple life.

Howard Ehrlich Congregational Crisis Fund
An interest-free loan to Temple Beth Am members who are experiencing financial need. Such requests should be made to Rabbi Baum and will remain anonymous.













Rabbi's Discretionary Fund
Used for charitable and Temple purposes at the discretion of the Rabbi. (Checks should be made payable to Rabbi Baum).

Lecture Series
Fund started by Allen Feigin in memory of his parents, to be used for the purpose of providing lectures to the congregation.

Torah Project Fund
The Torah Fund will be used for the refurbishment and repair of the temple’s Torahs with the concurrence of the clergy plus any refurbishments to the sanctuary.

50th Anniversary Fund
Contributions go toward refurbishing and beautifying the Temple

Arts and Decorating Fund
For the acquisition of furniture, carpeting, etc., for the Temple.

Sue Zucker Education Enrichment Fund
Established by Barbi & Rueven Yellin, Phyllis & Dr. Leon Charash, and Natlie & Ken Mintz to develop and fund programs designed to meet the changing needs of the family, according to the recommendation of the Director of Education and the Temple Board of trustees.

Sisterhood's Rabbi Sanford and Leah Saperstein Lecture Fund
Sponsors bi-annual "Scholar in Residence" and other speakers. (Checks payable to Sisterhood.)

Ethyle A. Gellis Confirmation Bible Fund
Established by family and friends of Ethyle A. Gellis. The purpose of the fund is to present bibles to all confirmands on Shavuot "with white bibles for the young lady confirmands to they may carry them on their wedding day."

June Lipman Art Endowment Fund
Established by Patricia S. Ween, Barbara Director, and William S. Lipman. The purpose of this fund shall be to promote and encourage the appreciation of art and artistic pursuits, including the beautification of religious and other structures by the acquisition and installation of exhibitions of art.

Israel Scholarship Fund
The Temple Beth Am Israel Scholarship Fund provides grants to Temple Beth Am students who will be at least 15 years of age in the calendar year and are in enrolled in the Merrick Community Hebrew High School, providing them with partial scholarships towards a trip to Israel sponsored by NFTY (North American Federation of Temple Youth).

Jim and Janet Neiman Landscaping Beautification Fund
Will be used to enhance and beautify the gardens surrounding the Temple.

David S. Levine Fund
Established by the family of David S. Levine. In recognition of academic excellence, a scholarship is granted to an eleventh grader enrolled in our Religious School.

Jane and Ira Lash Memorial School Scholarship Fund
The Jane and Ira Lash Memorial School Scholarship Fund provides funds for Temple Beth Am families who cannot otherwise afford to send their children to Temple Beth Am Hebrew School or the Merrick Community Hebrew High School.  This restricted fund may be used by the Finance Committee to supplement the financial arrangements it makes with families to pay their Temple dues and building fund, for the express purpose of paying for school fees.
