Did you know that there are over 283,000 people on Long Island who are hungry and utilize the services of Island Harvest?

Did you know that 110,000 children on Long Island know hunger first hand – enough to fill Citi Field... more than TWICE

That means that 1 in every 10 Long Islanders knows hunger first hand.
Island Harvest is the bridge between those who have a surplus of food and those who are in desperate need of it.

The Merrick & Bellmore synagogues are joining together from Rosh Hashanah to Sukkot to collect food to meet this growing crisis.

The items most in demand are:

peanut butter, canned tuna, canned soup, bags of dried beans, canned beans, canned vegetables, cereal, canned fruit, rice, dried pasta, and oatmeal.

There will be collection boxes at each congregation and Island Harvest will pick up the food at the end of Sukkot.

On behalf of Island Harvest, I thank you for all your help and wish you and your families a Shanah Tovah U’Metukah - A Sweet & Happy New Year.
