Dear Beth Am family,

Tisha B'Av (the 9th day of the Hebrew month of Av), is a day of mourning over the destruction of the First and Second Temples in Jerusalem in 586 B.C.E. and 70 C.E.

According to our sages, many other tragic events occurred to our ancestors on this day, from the expulsions of the Jews from England and Spain to more localized disasters.

It is a day of communal mourning and as such, we will be joining Congregation Beth Ohr, Merrick Jewish Centre and Temple Israel of South Merrick on Monday night July 31 at 8pm at Beth Ohr (2550 Centre Ave, Bellmore) for Erev Tisha B’Av services which will include the Cantors chanting the haunting melody of Eicha (Lamentations).

I look forward to seeing you there.

B’Shalom,
Rabbi Mickey Baum
