Presidents' Blog No. 10: May 2018

Dear Congregants,

Congratulations to all of us!!  We are now the first Congregation in Nassau County to move to a Voluntary Pledge system, “Give From the Heart.”  That being said, there are now so many avenues available to us to grow our Temple Beth Am community both in numbers and revenue. To do that requires the work of each and every one of us.  The Board will be doing everything possible to get the word out that we have moved to this model.  But WE NEED YOU!!  We will only be as successful as we make it.

To that end, we need each and every one of you to reach out to your Jewish and interfaith neighbors and friends to let them know of our recent changes, both those who are unaffiliated presently and those expressing dissatisfaction where they are.  We are here to assist you with any questions you may have with regard to the model, e.g., what payments are due when a member joins, do we still have Bar/Bat Mitzvah fees, Building Fund, Brotherhood, Sisterhood, is there a minimum required, etc. We are happy to discuss these details with you and/or your contact.

As we have explained, you will receive (or may have already received) a pledge form asking you what you are able and willing to contribute to the temple for the 2018-19 fiscal year.  Please return this form to us ASAP, if you have not done so already.  You will also be receiving a new application to complete after we receive your pledge form.  This will update our records on all of our Congregants, a task that has not been done for quite some time.  It is a time-consuming job to update our records but we are prepared to do everything in our power to make this Voluntary “Give From the Heart” program as successful as it can be.  We ask that you do the same.  Please complete the form, give us as much information as you can and let us know in what way you think you can help the temple.  You may not think it’s a valuable assist but I bet we will.

Since the Congregation has confirmed its willingness to try this model at our suggestion, we will stay on as Co-Presidents for an additional year to try and get this program off the ground. We hope that we are able to look back and say that all of our efforts were successful. Please help us!
