National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony April 21

posted Mar 3, 2013, 5:05 PM by David Plass   [ updated Mar 26, 2013, 4:38 PM ]

Brotherhood is sponsoring admission to the 21st Annual Induction Ceremony to the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and Museum on Sunday, April 21, 2013.

All tickets are subject to availability.  Brotherhood will cover the cost of admission for Temple members, and a limited number of their guests (subject to availability) . Brotherhood may restrict the number of guests attending.

Please RSVP via email by March 10, 2013 to Ken Fradkin, Brotherhood VP, at: walters2487@gmail.com. Please indicate the names and ages of temple members and guests attending; include contact phone number and email.

We will be meeting approximately 45 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony at the Hall of Fame and Museum, which is located at the Suffolk Y JCC.  The ceremony begins at 10:30 am. Those attending will be responsible for providing their own transportation to the event.  Carpooling is encouraged.  Additional information regarding ticket distribution/ logistics will be provided as we get closer to the event

The induction class includes several notable athletes including Randy Grossman, who played eight seasons for the Steelers, helping the team win four Super Bowl rings, and one of the heroes of the just-completed London Olympics, gold medal gymnast Aly Raisman.  Aly cannot attend in person, but will accept by video.

David Berger will be inducted posthumously. David, an American weightlifter who emigrated to Israel and made the 1972 Israeli Olympic Team, was one of the ‘Munich 11’ Jewish athletes who were murdered at the 1972 Olympics.

In addition to Grossman and Raisman, the other athletes to be inducted  are Andrew Bernstein (sports photography), Steve Bilsky (basketball), Bruce Cohen (lacrosse), Marilyn Ramenofsky (swimming) and Garrett Weber Gale (swimming).

Located at the Suffolk Y JCC at 74 Hauppauge Road, Commack, NY, the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and Museum honors Jewish sports figures who have distinguished themselves in the field of sports.
