Over the past 30 years, we have had the honor of participating and leading many Temple committees and activities. Now, as co-presidents of Chai Society, we have the opportunity to lead and socialize with a group of Temple members who have remained committed to our synagogue long after their children have been Bar or Bat Mitzvahed, our most loyal members.
Allen and Laurie Bender, Co-Presidents
The Chai society, as its name suggests, is for families who have been members of Temple Beth Am for at least eighteen years and form the nucleus of the hard core segment of congregation membership. By virtue of lengthy membership, generous support and dedication, the Chai society acts as a stabilizing force and a cohesive element in the congregation. Chai society members continue to be active participants in the congregation by serving on our board of directors and various committees. For example, one of our members oversees our temple library as the “librarian.” The Chai society sponsors several programs during the year. These programs are educational, entertaining and provide an opportunity for socialization among members. There are specific programs that we invite the entire congregation to participate in. Although the Chai society does not act as a fundraising or service arm of the Temple, it contributes to several Hebrew school and temple functions throughout the year.
