An exhibit at the Jewish Museum

at 3:30 pm.

This is the first major exhibition in this country to pay tribute to award-winning author and illustrator of children's books Ezra Jack Keats. His book The Snowy Day  was the first modern full-color picture book to feature an African-American protagonist. It was published in 1962 at the height of the civil rights movement in America.  The book went on to become an inspiration for generations of readers, transforming children's literature forever. The author was born in Brooklyn in 1916. His parents were Eastern European Jewish immigrants and were very poor. He was primarily self-taught and he drew upon memories of growing up in Easy New York, one of the most deprived neighborhoods int he city. This trip will be followed by dinner at a fabulous Manhattan restaurant.

Cost: $25 per person.
RSVP/deposit deadline: Dec 22.
